RHTY&SC cricket teams launch $5M Pro-Education/Anti Drugs Campaigns
The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club on Tuesday last launched its $5M Pro-Education Programme at the Port Mourant Secondary School with its cricket teams making a presentation of $300,000 worth of materials to the staff of the school.
The Club also unveiled a Teacher and Student Award Programme for the school in an effort to improve the standard of performances by the staff and students.
The teams – Farfan & Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under-19, Gizmos & Gadgets Under-23 and First Division and Metro Females presented each member of staff with a package of educational, hygiene and new born kits worth $8,000 each. Also presented was a quantity of cricket balls to the school’s cricket teams.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster at the presentation stated that the Port Mourant Secondary School was chosen by the teams because of the close relationship they shared with Head Teacher Colin Bynoe and because the club was quite impressed by the work ethics of the staff.
Foster disclosed that the Teacher and Student of the Year Programme was a pilot one and if it is successful at the Port Mourant Secondary School, it would be expanded to eight other schools in the Lower Corentyne area in 2012. Under the programme, a special committee has been established to select the outstanding teacher and student based on personal discipline, attitude, performance in the classroom and involvement in sports.
The cricket team would honour the awardees at the end of the term with special prizes. Foster urged the staff to maintain their high standards and pledged the cooperation of the club in the development of the school while noting that the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club places lots of emphasis on the importance of education.
The long serving administrator stated that in 2011 the club would be involved in over 50 Pro-Education projects including scholarships, Tribute to Retired Teachers Programme, Lower Corentyne Outstanding Students Programme, Tribute to Teachers Programme, Region 6 Educational Awards Ceremony, Television Programmes, Annual Magazine and donation of over $3million worth of educational materials to schools.
Mr. Rayol Franklyn speaking on behalf of the school expressed gratitude to the Club and the teams for making the staff feel appreciated while disclosing that he and his colleagues would continue to work beyond the call of duty to improve the educational skill of every student of the school.
