Entertainment has been promised for football fans visiting the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) Ground, Bourda tomorrow, Sunday January 2, when coordinator Lennox Arthur will stage the finals of the Dr. Noel Blackman’s birthday 7-a-side football tournament.
The remaining 12 teams from a total 36 who had started the competition, will ‘duke it out’ in an eliminator for the top prize on offer.
These teams will have their name in a bag and their opponents will be drawn randomly as the elimination process continues until the final two teams are determined to clash in the championship game.
The 12 teams competing tomorrow are; Mocha, Alexander Village, Sophia, North East LaPenitence, Broad Street, Pouderoyen, Grove, Lima Dam, Kuru Kururu, Timehri, Charlotte Street and Tiger Bay.
All the teams are asked to arrive at 5:00pm tomorrow for the drawing of the fixtures.
At stake for the winner of the competition is $100,000, while $50,000 goes to the runner-up along with the Dr. Blackman trophies.
Several leading players are expected to be on show, among them are Solomon Austin, Derville Stewart, Shem porter and Jimmy Gravesande all known for their ability in the shorter version of the game.
Dr. Noel Blackman, a former footballer and also a Minister of government during the PNC administration, in who’s honour the competition is being played has been following the competition from his base overseas.
