The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) will play host to a night of remembrance today in honour of the late Lennox Hunte, former DCC left arm orthodox spinner, former Vice President of DCC and former Chairman of the Guyana Junior Selection Panel, who died on Wednesday September 29.
The event is being held in remembrance of Mr. Hunte’s life and contribution to cricket in Guyana.
There will be an open microphone session for persons wishing to pay tribute and share experiences about the former long standing member of the Demerara cricket Club.
A release stated that, It is with great sadness that we at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) learnt of the passing of this distinguished member, who served selflessly. Our prayers are with his closest family and friends whom are deeply affected.
Mr. Lennox Hunte contributed not only as a slow bowler but there were times when he opened the bowling with a new ball, bowling left arm medium pace. He was also a very good lower order batsman, who got very useful contributions that was instrumental in DCC winning many matches. Mr. Hunte was a man of character and was known to many as a disciplinarian, a man who held on to his point of view, especially when he believed that it was the right thing to do.
As a member, he would be deeply missed in the development of young cricketers at DCC and by extension Guyana and it is the view that someone of his calibre is irreplaceable.
The event, which is jointly, hosted by the Demerara Cricket Club, the Hunte’s family members, friends of DCC and the Guyana Cricket Board will start at 7:00pm and all members, family and friends are invited.
In addition, persons wishing to partake in the funeral activities on Friday October 8 are advised that the body leaves the Funeral Home at 11:00am, and arrives at the Demerara Cricket Club for 11:30am to 1:00pm for viewing and further tributes. It then leaves DCC at 1:00 pm for the Ebenezer Gospel Hall, Lot 32 Ebenezer Drive, West Ruimveldt for funeral service at 3:00pm with Burial to take place thereafter.
