Is there some connection between Jagdeo’s govt. and the ‘failed fascist state of Cuba?’

Kissoon obviously thinks so as there are constant negative references to Cuba in his column, most of which are just rhetorical nonsense. They appear out of the blue and one has to struggle to make sense of any context!
It is interesting that no mention is ever made in his articles to the bete noire of all failed states – the United States itself. As Naom Chomsky so brilliantly points out in “Failed States” the US shares features with many of the regimes it defines and condemns as such (a primary characteristic of such being an “inability or unwillingness to protect their citizens from violence and perhaps destruction; a tendency to regard themselves as beyond domestic or international law, and hence free to carry out aggression and violence. And if they have democratic forms, they suffer from a serious ‘democratic deficit’ that deprives their formal democratic institutions of real substance”).
As Arundhati Roy has pointed out, we are talking of “a lone superpower which topples foreign governments, invades states that threaten its interests and imposes sanctions on regimes it opposes”.
Kissoon has been an indefatigable courageous critic of this terrible government but when one reads such puerile comments about Cuba (incidentally, I have stayed in a black working class suburb of Havana – La Timba – and not encountered these “plumbing deficiencies” and deprivations of the eponymous “Lady Jags”! but in light of Cuba’s historic struggle for survival from the “abusadoros” in the US one would not be surprised).
The USA which intervened so disastrously in the political life of Guyana between 1953 and 1969 now appears to have been redeemed by politicians and activists alike in Guyana and one can perhaps look forward to a healthy dose of neo-liberal free market ideology in post PPP Guyana. There will be more battles to be fought by the working people of Guyana.
For the present, if Kissoon wants to be taken seriously then one would expect more responsible informed content otherwise his opposition with Benschop (ex-supporter of republican Mayor Giuliani of New York) could be interpreted as the actions of political cowboys.
