Hinckson’s ton highlights opening day
A swashbuckling unbeaten 124 from Jamal Hinckson an unbeaten 97 from Rawle Browne and a five-wicket haul from Javeed Rasheed highlighted the opening round of the inaugural Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Haier Cup 2-day second division cricket competition yesterday.
Hinckson, who galloped to his 50 from 56 balls got support from Kester Hardcourt (31) Jaron Bryon (29*) as host DCC reached 214-2 in 29.3 overs replying to GNIC’s 209-8 off their allotted 40 overs.
National under-17 Keeper Dexter Solomon led the GNIC batting with 64 while Collis Butts (40) and his father Clyde Butts (26) supported as Jermaine Horatio took 2-29 for DCC.
At the Malteenoes Sport Club (MSC) ground, Brown hit 7 fours and 7 sixes in an attacking unbeaten 97 but only national under-19 left-arm pacer Andre Stoll (21) offered support as Police fell for 174 in 26.3 overs.
Leg-spinner Jermaine Joseph took 4-30 and Neil Barry Junior 2-19 for MSC who replied with 175-7 in 39.1 overs as Skipper Danny Narayan led the fight with an attractive 62-ball 67 decorated with 9 fours. Delon Moffatt supported with 45 as O. Heyliger took 3-8.
At the Police ground, Rasheed captured 5-33 and got back up from Abilash Dookie (4-41) for Everest who crushed Diplomats by 201 runs.
Raiyad Sattaur hit 6 fours in 77, veteran David Harper hammered 5 fours and 4 fours in 65, Dookie hit 5 fours and a six and Surendra Hiralall made 28 as Everest scored 295-8 off their 40 overs.
Sanjeem Ramdeen (2-38) and Nigel Bentick (2-41) were the most successful bowlers for Diplomats who were dismissed for 94 despite 36 with 2 fours and two sixes from Mark Mentore.
At GYO, Transport Sports Club (TSC) piled up the day’s highest total (346-9) against Ace Warriors who fell for 134 in reply.
Shawn Massiah clobbered 10 fours and 3 sixes in an unbeaten 77 and got back up from Charwayne McPherson (55), Stephan Sampson (49) and Shafiek Ishmael (42) for TSC as Cleyon Douglas (4-61) and Abzal Gafoor (2-52) were the main wicket takers for Ace Warriors.
Victor Bacchus top scored in a losing cause for Ace Warriors with 7 fours and a six in 39 while Delon Azore made 29. Massiah finished a good all-round game with 3-27 while Ishmael and Azeem Aziz took 2 wickets each.
Media player Calvin Roberts had a forgettable outing by being hammered for 61 runs from 4 overs after making a duck. (Sean Devers)
