Boxers of the Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF) may soon be training in a more improved environment following a commitment undertaken by the Director of Youth and Sports, Neil Kumar to donate the funds necessary for renovation works to their Albouystown training facility.
Should the Director of Sports commit to his word, the FYF would receive similar renovation works as that of the Harpy Eagles Boxing Gym (HEBG).
The HEBG was recently refurbished by vice president of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association, Maurice Rajkumar to the tune of some three hundred thousand dollars. Mr. Kumar was present at the opening ceremony and was impressed by the efforts to improve on the training environment of the Albouystown boxers. It was here that the Director of Sports voiced his concern for the ‘Ghetto’ youths and decided to do something about it. The boxers of the HEBG are now training in afar more comfortable environment following renovation works to the ablution area, boxing ring and the general training area.
The Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports, Frank Anthony was present at the opening of the gym and he too was loud in praise of Rajkumar’s efforts.
The FYF came into existence a few years ago after popular boxing promoter Keith Bazilio purchased the building and selflessly converted the structure to a boxing gym for young people interested in honing their skills in the finer art.
Several youths have since utilized the facility and have benefited immensely. Over the years, the structure has deteriorated and is now in dire need of repairs. Former amateur boxer, Sebert Blake tutors boxers at the gym with assistance from former Fecarbox boxing champion, Joseph Murray.
Among the top boxers emerging from the gym are the Jordon brothers, Michael and Dexter and a host of others. Obviously, the youths of the Albouystown area would welcome the timely intervention of the Director of Youth and Sports.
