Transport Sports Club (TSC) cruised to an easy eight wickets win over Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) to capture the final of the Cummings Electrical / P&P Brokers Raymond Panday Guyana Cricket Association (GCA) Second Division Cricket Competition which ended yesterday, at the DCC ground.
Winning the toss and sending the opposition into bat, TSC led by three wickets apiece from man-of-the-match Shafeik Ishmael and Azim Azeez restricted the host to 123 all out with Gladwin Brandis 22, Jermaine Horatio and skipper Linden Lyght 21 each, being the principal scorers.

The victorious Transport Sports Club team pose for Kaieteur Sport following their emphatic win over DCC yesterday.
In their turn at the crease, TSC reached 256 all out for a first innings lead of 133 runs with Ishmael leading the way with 88, while useful contributions came from Mark Nicholson 51 and captain Shawn Massiah 47.
Needing to clear off a deficit of 133, DCC faltered even badly in their second stint at the crease, falling for a meagre 173. Kevin George with 79 and Brandis 27 were the only players to offer any resistance to the TSC bowlers.
Azeez and Ishmael were once again the bowlers to do the damage, taking three wickets each, while Ryan Jones grabbed two.
Needing just 41 runs for victory, TSC reached 42-2 with Nicholson still there at the end on 28. Horatio took both wickets to fall.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Bishwa Panday, who performed the duties on behalf of both sponsors, said that they were both happy to be associated with the competition which according to him was well organised and run and offered their continued support in the future.
“I want to congratulate both the DCC and Transport for reaching the final and of course Transport for winning the competition,” Panday said.
He added that Guyana’s cricket is not without its challenges, but with the investment that they’ve made, hopefully they can play a small part in its revival. Panday stated that the GCA has a role to play in its revival, adding that from his perspective he felt that its President Alfred Mentore and team are conscious of their responsibilities and are working assiduously to discharge their mandate.
He wished them well, while urging them to have their full menu of competitions this year including the Under-15 to the Over-40.
Mentore in his remarks commended the efforts of TSC, stating that they played like champions over the weekend and thoroughly deserved victory. He also expressed his personal gratitude to the sponsors who he indicated have stuck with them over the past two years. “I am hoping that they continue to support the GCA in the future,” Mentore said.
Meanwhile, Abzal Gafoor of Ace Warriors was named Best Bowler and Best All-rounder in the competition, while his team-mate B. Stephenson was voted the Best Batsman.
