The one-year-old boy who was involved in the horrific Mahaica smash-up which claimed six lives last Saturday has been moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Hospital after his condition reportedly worsened.
According to a relative, Jonathan Bourne is presently on a machine which is helping him to breathe. The relative explained that the child had started experiencing some difficulty with his breathing and doctors quickly moved him to the ICU.
A CT scan which was done earlier this week has shown that there was a small fracture in the child’s skull. Relatives were told by the doctor who is treating Bourne that the fracture would “knit back” since he was still a child.
The child would also have to undergo surgery to remove particles which are still in his eyes. The child’s mother, Calvia Williams, is also a patient in the hospital. Her condition is stable. Williams received injuries to the foot and hands.
Another survivor of the accident, Doreen Dutchin, is also a patient in the Intensive Care Unit. According to relatives, the woman’s condition is listed as stable. One relative said that she would show signs of improvement and other days she would just sleep.
Wayne Holder’s wife yesterday told this newspaper that her husband was recovering well. She said that doctors said that he would be discharged soon. Another survivor Marvin Ramphal is still a patient in the male surgical ward.
The other injured victims were David Budhran, Dhandar Drepaul, 23; Vanetta Usher, 29; and Anille Arthur, 17. They were all treated and sent away.
The death toll in Saturday’s smash-up at Mahaica climbed to six after accident victim Joshua Johnson passed away late Saturday night. Those that died on the spot were minibus driver, Gary McAlmont, called ‘Percy’, Troy Douglas, Cynique Fraser, Patrina Munroe and Mary Blair, 52.
