Five matches on today at GCC, Blairmont, Rosignol & Bartica
After several weeks of eager and stimulating football, the Guyana Football Federation Super League will continue today at four venues around the country.
League leaders Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United (14 points) will be aiming to stretch their advantage when they travel to the Ancient County of Berbice to match skills with host team, Rosignol United at the Blairmont Community Centre ground.
Rosignol, lying second in the standings with 9 points following wins in three of their matches are also going all out to win this encounter and according to Coach Keith O’ Jeer surprises are in store. A big crowd is expected to present to back their home boys. Game time is 15:30hrs.
Way over in Bartica, home team Liquid Gold will attempt to turn back the challenge of their Region Three rivals Seawall FC, their match up is scheduled for the Bartica Community Centre ground also from 15:30 hrs.
After being placed well earlier in the tournament, both teams seem to have lost their steam and a win for anyone will revitalise their hopes of getting into the top four.
Up in the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden, Bakewell Top XX will have to be firing on all cylinders if they are to hold off the victory bid of the Guyana Defence Force, who, after losing their first two games have found the correct combination and have earned their 7 points in their last three games.
Top XX who have climbed to the number four spot in the standings are also on 7 points and a win for either team will propel them to 10 points. Kick off time is 20:00 hrs. Preceding this game will be a female encounter between Berbice and Linden in the National Women’s League. Both teams are yet to win a game and a keen and exciting tussle is anticipated.
In the city at the once World Famous GCC Ground, the East Coast teams which are 9th and 10th place will have to dig deep if they are to improve their fortunes. Game one which commences at 13:30 hrs brings together Victoria Kings (4 points) against Milerock (6th place on 7 points).
In the feature match, the youthful East Coast Senior Champions, Buxton United will have their work cut out when the tangle with the City’s number 2 team, Sunburst Camptown.
Camptown, who are on 8 points and in third position knows a win will send them into double figure and secure their chances of being in the top four.
Alpha, Rosignol United, Sunburst Camptown and Victoria Kings have all completed 6 of their 9 games whilst Bakewell Top XX, GDF, Milerock. Liquid Gold, Seawall and Buxton United have only played 5 games each.
