The 2009 Spready’s Bakery Under-19, 50-over Cricket Competition in Berbice is continuing after a break for bad weather.
Edinburgh defeated Rose Hall Community Centre to gain enough points to see them ending up as runners-up to Tucber Park in Zone B and thus earn a place in the quarter-finals of the competition in recent play.
They owe their victory largely to opening medium pacer Zaheer Hussain who picked up 4 for 19 from 8 overs, which together with 2 for 2 from 1 over from medium pacer Delon Nicholson and 2 for 4 from 3.1 overs from off-spinner Orson Burnett saw Rose Hall Community Centre being routed for a paltry 46 in 18.1 overs.
Edinburgh went on to win by 8 wickets.
Turning in a good all-round performance was former Guyana Under-15 captain Harrinarine Chattergoon, who playing for Albion Community Centre in Zone C, firstly took 3 for 17 from 9 overs of off spin and came back to open the batting and scored 51 not out, to spearhead his team to a 9-wicket win over Whim National.
