Dear Editor,
I was amused reading Freddie Kissoon’s recent complaints of being called “names” by President Jagdeo, CN Sharma, and Tony Vieira.
His complaints remind me of a chat I had with the late David De Caires in his office last April.
De Caires noted how some individuals like to dish out criticisms and attacks against others but don’t like to receive the same treatment. Every time I think of De Caires’ statement, Freddie comes to mind. He dishes out (attacks) but does not like to receive similar attacks.
Here is a guy who engages in almost a daily dose of vitriolic attacks against others often without any evidence or proof to substantiate his absurd claims and conclusions. He slants the facts to suit his purposes.
He distorts, misstates, and misrepresents others’ views to demean, derogate and denigrate them.
I recall on so many occasions, he told Ravi Dev to return to Little Guyana in the Bronx and Queens after Dev debunked Freddie’s postulates. So naturally, I laughed when I read of his gripe against President Jagdeo for allegedly insulting him (KN Jan 11).
And it was hilarious to read of his threat to sue Tony Vieira and CN Sharma if they should “libel” (sic – he meant slander) him on TV (KN Feb 28). Freddie abuses the free press in Guyana to attack others without justification.
Yet he says Guyana is a dictatorship. Freddie needs to be told that, 20 years ago, he would be facing billions of dollars in law suits for the kinds of things he pens today.
Freddie’s complaining of Tony Vieira and CN Sharma abusing him is like “pot calling kettle black”. One can forgive Tony Vieira and CN Sharma for egregious journalistic errors because they may not have the trained background as others.
But one cannot forgive Freddie who claims 25 years experience as a journalist and who is an academic at Guyana’s premiere academic institution.
He should know better and therefore he should stop attacking others unless he has facts and evidence to justify these nasty attacks.
