Black Night Women’s Volleyball team prevailed over Gladiators when the Mashramani Extravaganza sponsored by the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports concluded at the St Ignatius Ground Rupununi, on February 22 last.
The Black Knights dropped the first set 14-25 but rebounded to take the following three 25-21, 25-11, 25-10.
In the men’s game Tabatinga (Puma) defeated St Ignatius 15-25, 25-19, 25-15, 21-25, 15-12.
The Joint Services then defeated Gladiators in a 10 over softball cricket match. Batting first the Gladiators scored 70-3 when their overs expired. The Joint Services then amassed 73 runs in just 8.1 overs, losing just 1 wicket.
Private Henry top scored with an unbeaten 39 for the winners while Brian Alcides lashed 20 to post a top score for the losers.
In the women’s football game, St Ignatius, on the back of a 15 minute strike off the boot of Analene Leo, defeated Mocha Mocha.
The preliminaries were played over a three weeks period at the St Ignatius ground while the finals were held at the Tabatinga Sports Club Ground. The various winners will receive their prizes at a special ceremony planned for this Sunday.
Meanwhile, the inter-sub association U-15 football tournament, sponsored by the Rupununi Football Association, gets underway this Friday and concludes on Sunday March 1.
The tournament will be played on a round robin format and all matches will be played at the St Ignatius Football Ground, Rupununi.
