The Rose Hall Town Pepsi under-19 team defeated Change Your Life Christian Church (CYLCC) of Williamsburg in a 40-over match on Tuesday last to win the RHT/Williamsburg Friendship Trophy.
The match which was organised by the church as part of their Outreach Ministry and played at the Area ‘H’ Ground, saw CYLCC batting first after winning the toss and posted 142-8 off their allotted overs.
46 year old Patrick Lewis top scored with 30, Shawn Perreira 25 and Pastor Kevin Perreira 20 not out.
Simon Lawson 3-32, Leon Crawford 2-18 and Terrence Madramootoo 2-16 were the leading bowlers for Rose Hall Town Pepsi who were given a rousing start of 56 in 8 overs by Simon Lawson and national under-15 opening batsman Dominic Rickey before Lawson fell for a well played 37. Rickey retired on 30 not out as his team ended on 145-6 in 23.5 overs to win by four wickets.
Suresh Gwensammy 3-11 and Patrick Lewis 2-37 led the bowling for CYLCC.
Pastor Kevin Perreira thanked both teams for playing the game in a disciplined and cordial atmosphere and stated that the match was part of his church’s mission to spread the word of God to youths via sports.
He congratulated the winning team singling out Lawson, Madramootoo and Rickey as players with a bright future.
Skipper Madramootoo noted that his team was delighted to play the match and called for more matches of this nature where youths are challenged to serve God.
