(Kaieteur News) – An 18-year-old live-in student at the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) Training School at Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice is nursing severe burns after he was doused with a corrosive substance while asleep at the facility’s dormitory.
The incident reportedly occurred on May 22, 2026.
The teen, Trimol Noble, has since been left with significant burns to the left side of his face and other parts of his upper body.
Noble’s relatives are calling on the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to launch a thorough investigation into the incident which has left him in extreme pain and distraught. Kaieteur News understands that a report was made at the Whim Police Station.
The young man’s family is devastated by the occurrence noting that they have no idea who is behind the dastardly act.
Speaking to Kaieteur News on Friday, Trimmin Noble, the teen’s father expressed shock that his son was “burn in his sleep.” He said his son told him, he woke up to a searing sensation to his face and body.
“He run out, and after then he was traumatised. He didn’t actually know who was who, because people came and help he,” the senior Noble related.
“I want the Guyana Police Force to come out to help me concerning this situation. It’s a serious situation. It’s actually attempt murder, and I need justice for my son. They should hold somebody accountable, if it’s one or two or how much persons, hold them accountable for destroying my son’s face,” the father vented.
Efforts by Kaieteur News to contact officials from the institution were unsuccessful.
