Vurlon Mills Academy kicks off annual All-Girls football camp
The Vurlon Mills All-Girls Camp will be catering for female players ages 6 – 16.
(Kaieteur Sport) The Vurlon Mills Academy will today launch its annual All-Girls Football Camp at the Saints Ground on Carifesta Avenue, offering another opportunity for young girls to sharpen their football skills while developing confidence, discipline and teamwork.
Sponsored by Republic Bank, the five-day camp will run from August 10 to 14 and will cater for girls between the ages of six and 16.
The programme has become one of the most anticipated football development initiatives during the August school holiday period, attracting strong interest from young players eager to improve their game under the guidance of experienced coaches.
Vurlon Mills
For Mills, a former national football player, the camp represents another chapter in his commitment to developing the next generation of Guyanese footballers.
After retiring from playing at both the club and international levels, Mills turned his attention to youth development, establishing the Vurlon Mills Academy and dedicating himself to nurturing young talent.
Over the years, the academy has grown into one of Guyana’s leading football development programmes, if not the country’s premier academy, producing a structured environment in which young players can learn, develop and compete.
Mills’ transition from player to coach and administrator has also been supported by corporate Guyana, with businesses recognising the value of investing in grassroots football and the development of young people.
The continued support has allowed the academy to expand its programmes and provide opportunities for youngsters who aspire to progress in the sport.
The All-Girls Football Camp has become a particularly popular feature of the academy’s annual calendar.
Since its introduction, the programme has been among the most sought-after football activities during the August holidays, reflecting the growing interest in girls’ football and the demand for quality development opportunities.
The camp is expected to provide participants with technical instruction covering the fundamental aspects of the game, while also emphasising teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship and personal development.
