Kaieteur Sports – Competing alongside the region’s elite, the Guyanese delegation showcased immense tactical discipline on the oche, spearheaded by veteran performances and historic individual milestones.

Guyana’s campaign in Nassau was marked by high-stakes consistency, as it stood toe-to-toe with powerful regional counterparts, including Trinidad & Tobago, the Bahamas, and Florida.

In the CDLC, Sudesh Fitzgerald advanced deep into later knockout stages, maintaining a top-tier regional rank.

Veteran Norman Madhoo sustained elite consistency, but was unable to advance further, as he had in his prior tournament in Panama.

Both men’s individual seeding remains strong in the top 8, in 4th and 7th position, and are highly competitive under Professional Darts Corporation, and have earned qualifications for the preliminary round of the PDC Winmau World Masters, along with complimentary entries to the PDC Q School in 2027.

Guyana’s Darts contingent repping the Golden Arrowhead at the conclusion of the Caribbean Darts championship.

The Caribbean Darts Cup is a strong team synergy through initial group stages. Pushed top-seeded teams like Florida and eventual team champions Trinidad & Tobago to narrow the margins of victory from Guyana.

The team showed depth, with Sudesh Fitzgerald advancing to the semifinals in the men’s singles, where he lost to the Trinidadian Joshua Balfour 5-6, who went on to capture the title of the 2026 championship. In the men’s doubles, Sudesh Fitzgerald and Luis Miguel Remirez-Merlano fought their way into the finals against the Bahamians Richard Sweeting and Kansas Fields, where Guyana lost 4-1.

At this year’s championship the youth participation played a major role, where the points were combined to have the overall winner.

The GDA introduced a Youth programme with the intention of fielding a youth team to the games; unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in securing adequate funding to take a full team of adults and youth, but we pledge to continue with a structured junior darts development programme to have youth participation at the next championship to improve Guyana’s position.

“While we are grateful for the opportunity to compete, we acknowledge that our overall result was affected by our inability to field a full female contingent. As a result, Team Guyana finished 7th overall.”

Despite this setback, our players competed with determination, sportsmanship, and pride. The association remains committed to strengthening our programme, developing more female players, and returning even stronger in future competitions.
