Georgetown Smash delivers explosive wrestling debut

(Kaieteur Sport) An electrifying night of high-impact action, drama and championship changes marked All Caribbean Wrestling’s (ACW) historic debut in Guyana, as the promotion brought its “Georgetown Smash” card to the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Saturday night.

The event attracted a strong crowd, including Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport Steven Jacobs, with fans transforming the CASH into a raucous arena as regional and international wrestling stars delivered a night of nonstop entertainment.

Headlined by WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry and Guyanese-heritage star Kenny King, the inaugural Guyana show provided a memorable blend of technical wrestling, power, high-flying action and the theatrics synonymous with professional wrestling.

The night ended fittingly with a clash that had the partisan crowd firmly behind the “Son of the Soil” King, who faced Trinidad and Tobago’s TriniDan in an International Event Match.
King, a seasoned performer and former Ring of Honor (ROH) and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) star who also competed on WWE’s Tough Enough, tapped into the longstanding sporting rivalry between Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago to add extra spice to the encounter.

The two wrestlers produced an aggressive and technical contest, with the action spilling outside the ring and into the fans before eventually returning to the squared circle.
TriniDan seized control with a series of hard-hitting moves, but the match took another turn when interference from his manager brought Suriname’s Dongo Brothers into the equation.
King eventually regained his composure and waited patiently for his opportunity. When it came, the Guyanese star delivered his signature “Royal Flush” to secure the victory and send the home crowd into celebration.

Earlier, ACW World Heavyweight Champion Prince Agballah successfully defended his title against the undersized but spectacular Ríos De La Sangre in one of the fastest-paced contests of the night.

De La Sangre repeatedly stunned the near-seven-foot champion with his agility, including a perfectly executed 450 splash that nearly produced an upset.

However, Agballah’s size and strength eventually proved decisive. The champion overpowered his opponent for long stretches before capitalising on a reversal from the ropes to execute a slingshot slam and score the three-count.

There was also a change at the top of the ACW women’s division, as Paola Mayfield defeated defending champion Kaylia Capri to capture the ACW Women’s Championship.
Capri showed plenty of fight but ultimately lost her title after being caught by a top-rope suplex.

In keeping with ACW tradition, Henry presented Mayfield with the newly minted championship belt following her victory, adding another memorable moment to the historic event.
Capri, however, made it clear the rivalry is not over, cutting a fiery post-match promo and calling for her rematch at the next ACW event in her hometown.

The opening portion of the card also featured an entertaining Tag Team No. 1 Contender’s triple-threat match involving Drako Starx and Alex Arsenal, The Dongo Brothers and Venezuela’s Most Wanted, alongside several competitive singles bouts.

With its combination of international stars, Caribbean rivalries and championship drama, “Georgetown Smash” gave Guyanese fans a taste of professional wrestling at a major level, and could pave the way for more ACW events in Guyana.
