Turkish powership company launches trainee, internship programme to improve Guyana’s energy workforce
(Kaieteur News) – Turkish powership company Karpowership has launched a trainee and internship programme designed to provide young Guyanese with practical exposure to the country’s power generation industry, while simultaneously supporting the development of a skilled local workforce.
In a statement to the media on Friday, the company said the initiative is a reflection of its continued commitment to investing in Guyana by creating opportunities for young professionals as well as students to gain first-hand experience in a modern power generation environment.
A few of the trainees and officials who are part of the programme.
Those participating will be able to engage in structured learning activities that include site visits, introductory sessions on power plant operations, safety awareness training and job shadowing alongside experienced engineering and operations professionals. In addition, the programme was designed to aid academic learning by providing the participants with valuable insight into the best practices of the industry, operational excellence and the importance of safe, reliable power generation.
Speaking on behalf of Karpowership, Ms. Beyza Özdemir, Americas Regional Director of Commercial Operations said “Karpowership believes that developing local talent is essential to supporting Guyana’s long-term growth. Through this programme, we hope to inspire the next generation of engineers, technicians and energy professionals while providing meaningful exposure to one of the country’s most critical industries.”
The programme which is structured as an educational initiative, places focus on observation, learning and professional development rather than operational responsibilities, ensuring participants gain practical industry knowledge within a supervised learning environment.
Forming part of Karpowership’s broader commitment to community engagement and capacity building in Guyana, the programmes will be complementing the company’s ongoing support for education, skills development and youth empowerment initiatives.
“As Guyana’s energy sector continues to evolve, Karpowership remains committed to partnering with local stakeholders to help develop the skilled workforce that will support the country’s future energy needs and continued economic development,” the statement added.
