Dear Editor,
The news that the Surinamese government announced that they will be proceeding with the construction of a bridge over the Corentyne River alone has come as no surprise to me, but what is surprising is the response by our illustrious Head-of-State, when he said “that’s news to him”. In letters published in the independent media in July 2023, titled “Dot all the i’s and cross all the t’s before advancing on the Corentyne bridge project” published in Stabroek News, and another titled “Proceed with caution on Corentyne River deal” published in Village Voice in April 2026, authored by me, speak volumes. In addition, I quietly offered wise counsel to the powers that be, on this issue.
Editor and citizens, it is apparent that the powers that be, are so arrogant, and may I say stupid, that they seem unwilling or unable to listen to the voices of experience. Perhaps because such advice does not carry a hefty fee, and therefore no cost to the State. When will we learn to listen to the pleadings of those outside of the extant cabal, and whose only interest is the wellbeing of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
Sincerely,
Hamilton Green
