This is a commendable initiative by the government

Guyana’s growth and development has been given a significant boost with the recent batch of graduates from the GOAL programme. Thousands of young people have been added to the workforce providing what is considered ‘higher order thinking skills’ (HOTS) to the economy. This injection of brainpower will certainly power the country to greater heights.
This is exactly what Guyana needs at this stage in its development. This ‘critical mass’ approach to development will certainly accelerate the growth momentum which has now reached unprecedented levels.
The GOAL programme provides Guyanese with an opportunity to pursue higher education at the graduate and post-graduate levels including at the doctorate level, free of cost. The same applies to the University of Guyana and other tertiary institutions such as the Guyana School of Agriculture, the Cyril Potter College of Education and the Government Technical Institutes.
This is indeed remarkable and speaks well of the PPP/C administration which has been putting much emphasis on the development of human capital which is indispensable for the development process. Besides, it is an integral part of the democratisation of education whereby every eligible Guyanese regardless of their socio-economic background can access tertiary education to the full limit of their potential.
This is a commendable initiative by President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali and the PPP/C administration. Guyana’s future is inextricably linked to its investment in human resources as the experiences of so many of the so-called Asian tigers have demonstrated. These countries have demonstrated that it is possible to leap-frog to much higher levels of development, thanks to investment in education.
