Stray dogs taking over Burnham Mausoleum
Dear Editor,
The mausoleum, in the Botanic Gardens, that houses the remains of the Founder Leader is, quite literally, going to the dogs.
A wild pack of canines has apparently assumed ownership of the site and its surroundings, treating the grounds as their personal turf and visitors as unwelcome trespassers.
Visitors and motorists alike have found themselves subjected to being chased and barked at by these four-legged creatures.
One wonders whether the authorities are waiting for someone to be bitten, mauled, or compelled to break an Olympic sprint record before action is taken.
Surely a national monument should not require visitors to carry dog biscuits or a veterinary tranquillizer gun as part of their sightseeing equipment.
The Founder Leader may have envisioned many things for the nation, but it is doubtful that he imagined his final resting place becoming the headquarters of a canine republic.
Perhaps it is time for the relevant authorities to remind these self-appointed guardians of Burnham’s final resting place, that while every dog may have its day, it should not also have an entire mausoleum.
