“Cop use teddy bear as silencer to kill Cuban woman” – police reveal from confession statement

(Kaieteur News) – The police constable who confessed to the murder of a 26-year-old Cuban woman, described in disturbing detail how he shot her using a teddy bear as a makeshift silencer, bound her remains with rope, and then systematically disposed of evidence across East Coast Demerara.

The suspect, Police Constable Randy Thomas, gave the account to detectives investigating the disappearance and death of Dailen Paneque Gómez, a Cuban national who was reported missing on 18^th June while travelling to her job at the Mon Repos Health Centre. Her body was discovered six days later in Enmore Backdam, East Coast Demerara.

According to his confession, Thomas contacted Gómez and arranged to meet her at Enmore, where a discussion escalated into an argument. He claims she physically assaulted him during the confrontation — after which he pressed a teddy bear against her head and shot her with an unlicensed firearm he had in his possession.

Thomas then allegedly used a rope — which investigators say he had purchased earlier that same day from a Chinese supermarket in Mahaica — to bind her remains before dragging the body into nearby bushes to conceal it.

In what investigators describe as a calculated effort to destroy evidence, Thomas disposed of the teddy bear along the roadway leading out of the backdam and discarded the firearm in nearby bushes before driving home. At his Mahaica residence, he cleaned the interior of his vehicle with hand sanitiser. He subsequently threw the victim’s cellphone and a spent shell casing over a bridge at Unity, East Coast Demerara.

Investigators are currently searching the area to corroborate the details of the confession.

Thomas is a serving member of the Guyana Police Force. His alleged use of an unlicensed firearm while off duty is expected to form a key part of the prosecution’s case.
