Timehri United storm into Elite League Playoffs with a 6-1 demolition of Swan United

Kaieteur Sports – Timehri United booked their place in the 2026 Elite League Playoffs in emphatic fashion, dismantling Swan United 6-1 in a one-sided East Bank Football Association (EBFA) Qualifier final on Sunday at the National Training Centre.

In front of a modest crowd, Timehri United Football Club were clinical from the first whistle, with captain Joseph DeFreitas capping a superb team display with a brace in the closing stages to rubber-stamp a comprehensive victory and send his side into the upcoming Elite League Playoffs.

Timehri set the tone early when Nyron Barrow fired home a stunning opener inside five minutes, rocking Swan United before they had found their footing. Tyrone Burnette doubled the advantage in the 20th minute, slicing through Swan’s backline with composure to make it 2-0. Swan United showed fleeting character when Timothy Adrian pulled one back in the 42nd minute just before the break, but Timehri headed into the interval firmly in the driving seat at 2-1.

A second half surge denied Swan United’s advancement, the unit never recovered after the restart. Timehri eventually turned the screw late into the second half, Michael Correia burying a well-crafted 77th-minute strike to restore the two-goal cushion and effectively controlled the contest thereafter.

DeFreitas, who has been instrumental throughout Timehri’s impressive EBFA Playoff campaign, then took center stage; netting goals in the 80th and 90th minutes to complete his brace and send the travelling supporters into celebratory frenzy. To compound Swan United’s misery, defender Michael Williams turned the ball into his own net in the 89th minute with a sloppy piece of defending, wrapping up a humiliating evening for the Qualifier finalists.

While the win was very much a collective effort, standout performers Leroy Evans, Michael Correia, Nyron Barrow, and the influential DeFreitas carried Timehri United on their backs throughout the campaign, delivering crucial goals at pivotal moments when the pressure was at its highest.

Road Ahead

Timehri United now join clubs from Berbice, Bartica, East Coast, West Bank, and Essequibo in a straight Knockout Playoff format, with seven sides battling for a coveted spot in the 2026 Elite League Championship. The action gets underway on June 7 in Georgetown — and on this form, Timehri United are likely to fancy their chances.
