Two dead in Water Street brawl
(Kaieteur News) – A 29-year-old salesman is claiming self-defence after fatally stabbing two men on Water Street, Georgetown, near Bounty Supermarket in the Stabroek Market area on Friday morning.
The stabbings occurred around 09:30 hrs and left chips vendor Vincent Trim, also known as ‘Junior Browne’, 23, of Durban Backlands, Georgetown, and Tyrone Captain, of Evesham, Corentyne, Region Six, dead.
Police say one victim died at the scene while the other succumbed while receiving treatment.

The suspect, Angelo Answick, was arrested hours after the killings. He is alleging that he was attacked first over a woman, 28-year-old Lisa Salim.
During interrogation, Answick told police that Salim’s child’s father is Tyrone Captain. He said he and Salim began a relationship in October 2025 and started living together, a development that reportedly angered Captain. Answick further alleged that Captain threatened to shoot him weeks earlier, though he never reported the threat to police.
On the morning of the incident, Answick said he and Salim went to the City Mall on Camp Street around 08:00 hrs for breakfast, then took a bus to the bus park. Salim continued on to South Ruimveldt while Answick walked toward his workplace on Water Street.
He told police that as he approached Bounty Supermarket, Captain and Trim attacked him from behind, punching and striking him. He alleged Captain was armed with a knife, which Answick managed to wrestle away before stabbing both men and walking off with the weapon. He was later arrested inside Bounty Supermarket.
Answick told police he sustained injuries during the attack; a hospital examination reportedly confirmed injuries to his body.
Police say the alleged murder weapon — a knife with bloodstains — was recovered in Answick’s possession, marked, sealed, and sent to the Forensic Laboratory for analysis.
An examination of Captain’s body showed he sustained five stab wounds: one to the left side of the neck, one to the left rib area, one to the chest below the neck, and two to the left shoulder/back. Trim sustained two stab wounds.

Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the area as the investigation continues.
