MOE/Beharry U19 Secondary School’s T20 Tournament… Finalists receive kits ahead of road to ultimate showdown

(Kaieteur News) – The eight zonal champs of the Beharry School’s Under-19 T20 tournament got their playing kits ahead of the final phases of the competition, which gets underway this weekend with huge encounters between some of the country’s highly-talented youth players.

The 8 zonal school champion teams will now shift their attention to the final rounds of the tournament which bowls off this weekend.

During Thursday’s presentation at the Ministry of Education Ground, Petra executive Nareeza Latif, Beharry Group of Companies Marketing Manager Malissa Sylvester, Nicholas Fraser, Head of the Allied Arts department (Ministry of Education), and tournament Co-ordinator Azizi Christiani gave remarks as well as updates ahead of the upcoming final Group fixtures.

The teams who will be duking it out will be Abram Zuil, Essequibo Islands, Saint Stanislaus College, Queen’s College, Berbice Educational Institute, Covent Garden, West Side Secondary, and Annandale Secondary.

Christiani congratulated the final 8 teams, adding that teams were not only tasked with winning but also with having good Net-Run-Rates.

Beharry Group of Companies Marketing Manager Malissa Sylvester presented the official playing kits for to the 8 final school’s during yesterday’s ceremony.

After the two respective 4-team Group A and B have their mini-duel to see who will emerge as the respective Group A and B winners who will head to the finals, while the teams will play for 3rd place.

Fraser, during his remarks, said it was a pleasure for the Allied Arts/MOE to be at this juncture of such a sports activity, which a lot went into.

He noted that having competition in what everyone believes is the most popular sport in Guyana, cricket, makes sense to have it played at the school level.

Fraser further added that he was pleased to work with Petra, while lauding the teams who have qualified as possibly the best Under-19 teams in Guyana.

Meanwhile, Sylvester said she recognized and welcomed the teams, organizers, teachers, parents, as well as the schools who would have been part of the journey to date; while commending them on the grit and team spirit shown heading into the final stages of the competition.

She admitted that while the journey has not been easy, as organizers aimed to have some 80 schools involved, Slyvester believed that while they may not have met their benchmark, having 60 schools still is good; further praising organizers Petra for their resilience as she wished them additional luck ahead of the finals.

Group A will feature the Essequibo Islands, Covent Garden, Queen’s College, and Abram Zuil.

Group B consists of Annadale, West Side High, Saint Stanislaus, and Berbice Educational Institute.
