Driver in BV fatal accident in custody – police
(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Police Force on Wednesday reported that the driver involved in the fatal accident which occurred on the Beterverwagting Public Road, East Coast Demerara which claimed the life of a Chinese national on Tuesday night is currently in custody assisting with the investigations.
The police in an official report stated that the accident occurred around 18:45hrs and involved motorcar #HD 5540, driven by a 45-year-old male of Great Diamond, East Bank Demerara and a female pedestrian.

The police reported that the motorcar was heading west along the northern driving lane of the southern carriageway of Beterverwagting Public Road, reportedly at a fast rate, when it collided with the pedestrian, who was reportedly crossing the roadway at the time.
“As a result of the collision, the pedestrian fell onto the road surface and sustained injuries about her body. The driver reportedly lost control of the motorcar, which ran onto the concrete median and came to a halt,” the police detailed.
The Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned to the scene and the pedestrian was examined by a doctor who pronounced her dead at the scene. Her body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits identification and a post-mortem examination.
Police stated that a breathalyser test was conducted on the driver and no trace of alcohol was detected. He was taken into police custody and the vehicle as investigations continue.
