Bartica taxi driver on 200k bail for trafficking cocaine
The quantity of cocaine police discovered on the driver’s person.
(Kaieteur News) – A 25-year-old taxi driver identified as Reon Speede, called “Pooh,” of Five Miles Housing Scheme, Bartica, on Monday, was granted $200,000 bail after he was charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Police said Speede appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed, where he pled not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of $200,000.”

The matter was adjourned to July 2, 2026, for continuation.
In a previous statement, police said that an investigation was launched into the discovery of a quantity of cocaine on Saturday May 16, at Two Miles Bartica, Potaro Road, Essequibo River.
“Enquiries revealed that ranks, while conducting the exercise, observed a 25-year-old taxi driver of Five Miles, Essequibo River, driving a motorcar. The vehicle was stopped and the man exited same and attempted to run away. He was pursued, apprehended and escorted to the Bartica Police Station,” police said.
A small transparent bag containing 18 small Ziploc bags with a whitish powdery substance was found on his possession during a search conducted on his person.
He was arrested and the suspected narcotics weighed in his presence, amounting to 12.2 grams before it was lodged.
