Dem Boys Seh…
Kaieteur News – Dem boys seh de world done turn upside down, spin round twice, and park crooked pun de pavement. Imagine hearing dat Guyana airport win award for Best Passenger Experience and Satisfaction. Best? Passenger? Experience? Dem boys nearly choke pun dem bush tea.
Dem boys wondering whether in considering de “experience” and de “satisfaction”, dem wah big up Guyana consider the hassle and frustration to get to the airport in the first place. But leh we leff that one side fuh de time being.
Leh we examine dis passenger “experience,” and “satisfaction”because maybe we been misunderstanding suffering all these years.
First scene: evening time at de airport car park. More cars deh than parking spaces. It look like Black Friday sale at Walmart parking lot. Every inch full up. If de person collecting yuh get a bad parking far away from the incoming area, well congratulations—you now entered de airport obstacle course.
You pull yuh suitcase from one side of de compound to de next, dragging it over concrete rough enough to grate coconut. By de time yuh reach de car, de suitcase wheels look like dem survive three tours in Afghanistan. One wheel gone east, one gone west, and one applying for disability pension.
Now if you checking in, yuh can get dropped at de front door of de outgoing terminal. Luxury! But unless you hiring a red cap, yuh is now de official porter of your own luggage. Is cardio before takeoff. Why pay gym membership when airport giving free workout? By de check-in counter, yuh sweating like sugar in tea.
And de family who come to see yuh off? Nah bai, dem can’t come inside. Dem got to remain outside like common criminals. But don’t worry—you can still wave goodbye through de glass wall like you starring in some sad prison movie. “Tell Granny ah love she!” tap tap on glass
Inside now, everything smooth enough till hunger bite. Then you realize finding something proper to eat or drink is like searching for the Lost City of El Dorado. Choices so limited, if you blink you miss de menu. One stale sandwich and one mysterious pastry looking older than de runway.
So when dem boys hear “Best Passenger Experience,” dem start wondering if de judges land at de wrong airport. Maybe dem confuse Timehri with Dubai. Maybe de award was for Best Passenger Patience. Or Best Ability to Endure Hardship With Manners.
Because if dragging broken suitcase wheels across rough concrete while hungry and waving farewell through glass is luxury, then dem boys seh next year, 40-foot trench winning award for best swimming pool.
Talk half. Leff half.
