Work? Me? I can’t afford that!
(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh Guyana got a new class of people who never work a day in dem life. And dem ain’t ashamed either. In fact, dem happier than the man who wake up at 5:30 every morning to beat traffic and reach work before he late.
Dem boys seh some people does say, “I can’t afford to work.”
Now, that statement does confuse dem boys because normally people does say, “I can’t afford not to work.” But Guyana different. Here, some people calculate the cost of working and decide that unemployment is more economical.
De average worker got to find transportation. He gat to find lunch. He gat to have work clothes. He have to have shoes. He gat to wake up early. He gat to listen to boss talking. He gat to answer phone. He gat to sit in traffic after work. He gat to work eight hours.
Is then he does realise that after he done calculate everything, he realise he could stay home, sleep till nine, drink tea, watch television all day and still have enough money to complain that life expensive.
Dem boys seh this is the only country where a man could spend the whole day doing absolutely nothing and still complain that he tired. And the funniest thing is that some of these people happier than the people who working.
The working man got mortgage. The working woman got bills. The office worker got deadlines. The businessman got taxes. The public servant got a supervisor asking, “Where is that report?”
Meanwhile, Mr. Comfortable-Unemployed lying in hammock saying, “Boy, life hard.”
Hard? You ain’t even lifting a fork unless lunch arrive.
Dem boys seh some people don’t want a job. Dem want an income with no employment attached. They want salary without supervisor, pension without contribution, vacation without work, bonus without performance and promotion without showing up.
And if you ask them when they planning to work, they does look at you like you just insulted dem grandmother.
Dem boys seh Guyana got people who believe employment is a scam invented by employers to interfere with their sleep.
And maybe dem right.
Because when the working man finally reach home after eight hours of work, he does have enough energy only to eat and sleep. But the man who never worked? He already rested up for tomorrow.
