Gurbaz half-century powers Guyana to 8-wicket win

(Kaieteur News) – Guyana Amazon Warriors announced their arrival home with a brutal 8-wicket win last night at Providence, stealing momentum from the Jamaica Kingsmen while building another unbeaten run as the crunch stages of this year’s CPL heats up.
Jamaica Kingsmen posted a total of 159-7 in their 20 overs after giving up much to the Warriors for almost the entire innings; before managing to put themselves back on track to then finish strongly.
Led by skipper Rovman Powell, the Kingsmen experienced a tough middle-overs collapse, finding themselves in deep trouble at one point.

However, an explosive, counter-attacking knock down the order from Hassan Khan, who smashed an incredible 62 runs off just 29 balls; provided the impetus needed for a turnaround finish to the innings which was not looking too promising at 87-6 during one stage.
Khan smacked a whopping 6 massive sixes, as he single-handedly rescued the innings and propelled them to a competitive target.
Opener Maaz Sadaqat also provided crucial stability with a steady 35 (1×4 1×6) anchoring the top order.
On the bowling side for Guyana, spinner Khary Pierre (2-21) and fast-bowler Dwaine Pretorius (2-20), did the heavy lifting to contain the Kingsmen batters; including Keacy Carty (18) and Guyanese Keemo Paul (15).
Guyana Amazon Warriors then chased down the target comfortably, reaching 160-2 in just 17.2 overs.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz led the charge with a spectacular 54 off 35 balls, supported well by Shai Hope (39*) and Mavendra Dindyal (33) and Shimron Hetmyer (30*); who never took their feet off the gas from the first ball of the chase.
With this victory, the Amazon Warriors have extended their dominant, unbeaten run in the tournament and will play their next game at Providence on Sunday. ( Clifton Ross)
