(Kaieteur News) – As the global call for sustainability intensifies, a bold national movement is emerging in Guyana to transform the way citizens view and manage waste. Guyanese-owned organisation Waste To Wealth PBPT Caribbean (W2W) is officially launching its inaugural hands-on initiative designed to educate households across the nation to convert everyday kitchen scraps into valuable organic fertiliser within just two months.
Beginning with Georgetown residents, this initiative signals the beginning of a broader “Waste to Wealth” movement aimed at inspiring citizens to take practical, immediate action toward building a greener, more self-sufficient Guyana. At its core, the movement encourages families to stop discarding waste and instead harness it as a resource, reducing environmental impact while creating sustainable value at the household and community levels.
On Sunday, April 12, 2026, W2W will host an engaging, family-friendly composting workshop at the Eco-Garden International Vegetarian Restaurant parking lot, in Georgetown where participants will be introduced to the concept of producing “Organic Miracle Garden Soil” (OMGS). This immersive experience is designed to move beyond awareness into action, equipping families with the tools and skills needed to actively participate in the national shift toward sustainable living.
Central to the training is the innovative T.E.C.H method, an acronym for Thermophilic, Easy, Clean, and Home composting developed by W2W Founder and lead facilitator Rampertab Etwaria. Participants will engage directly in building their own composting systems, gaining hands-on experience in transforming waste into a valuable resource.
Key highlights of the session include mastering the art of balancing nitrogen-rich “greens,” such as kitchen scraps, with carbon-rich “browns,” like cardboard; understanding the importance of shredding materials for faster decomposition using industrial-safe equipment; and constructing practical, do-it-yourself composters by modifying second-hand half-plastic drums into fully functional home systems.
This first-of-its-kind workshop will take place from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Eco-Garden parking lot, 171 Mandela Avenue (opposite Thirst Park, Banks DIH). The investment is $15,000 per family (up to four persons), reinforcing the movement’s focus on collective household transformation.
According to Founder Rampertab Etwaria, the mission extends far beyond a single workshop. “This movement is about shifting mindsets across Guyana. What we usually throw away is actually hidden wealth. By the end of this session, families will not only gain knowledge but will leave equipped with the tools and a working composter to begin their journey toward a greener, more sustainable lifestyle,” he stated.
To maintain a high-quality, hands-on experience, participation is limited to the first 15 families. Attendees are required to bring two second-hand half-plastic drums (55-gallon size), one 5-gallon container, and a supply of clean, non-glossy cardboard. Registration includes expert training, use of equipment, and one complimentary meal, with additional refreshments available for purchase throughout the event.
Interested persons are encouraged to register promptly by contacting Event Coordinator Romona at 757-3855 or via email at wastetowealth347@gmail.com, or visit our FB page and register.
