(Kaieteur News) – Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Sunday, 2nd August, 2026, along the No. 22 Public Road, West Coast Berbice, involving motorcars PJJ 94 and PAP 2877.
Preliminary investigations revealed that motorcar PJJ 94, driven by 42-year-old Carlton Pluck of No. 8 Village, West Coast Berbice, was travelling east along the northern carriageway at fast rate. While negotiating a right bend, Pluck reportedly attempted to overtake a line of traffic and collided head-on with motorcar PAP 2877, which was travelling west along the southern carriageway.
Motorcar PAP 2877 was being driven by 33-year-old Andre Stephen of Bermine Scheme, New Amsterdam. Also in the vehicle were 37-year-old Sean Codagan of Glasgow Housing Scheme, New Amsterdam, and 33-year-old Delon Codagan, also of New Amsterdam.
The impact left both vehicles extensively damaged, and all four men sustained injuries.
Pluck was initially taken to the Bath Regional Hospital before being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he remained unconscious while receiving treatment for severe head injuries. He succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday at about 16:30 hrs.
Stephen was treated at the Bath Regional Hospital and later discharged. Sean Codagan was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for further medical attention, while Delon Codagan, who sustained multiple injuries, remains under observation. Their conditions are listed as stable.
A breathalyser test conducted on Stephen recorded a reading of 17 micrograms.
Pluck’s body is currently at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police investigations are continuing.
