Woman robbed after leaving GSL finals at Providence
(Kaieteur News) – A woman was robbed on Saturday night shortly after leaving the national stadium at Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD), where she had attended the Global Super League (GSL) Final between the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) and the San Francisco Unicorns (SFU).
According to the woman, she had called a taxi to pick her up at the stadium, but the driver later contacted her and asked that she leave the venue and walk to meet him because traffic was too heavy for him to get through.
“…I was hesitant and explained that I didn’t feel safe walking at night, but I eventually agreed,” she wrote in a public Facebook post.
The woman displays injuries to her neck after bandits allegedly snatched her gold chain while walking to meet a taxi after the GSL final at Providence.
“Sadly, while walking to meet the taxi, I was attacked and robbed.”
The woman said the bandits stole a substantial amount of cash, a gold chain and all of her important documents. She also sustained bruises during the attack.
“It has been a traumatic experience, but above all, I’m grateful to be alive,” she added.
It is unclear whether the incident was reported to the police. However, the woman said she informed the owner of the taxi service about the robbery.
She said she decided to share her experience to encourage others to trust their instincts whenever they feel unsafe.
“If you call a taxi, you should be picked up from the location you requested, especially at night. If you don’t feel safe walking to meet a driver, don’t do it. Your safety should always come first,” she advised.
The woman also shared photographs showing bruises to her neck, which she said she sustained when the attackers snatched her gold chain.
