Cuban woman, accomplices remanded for allegedly robbing, killing lover
(Kaieteur News) – A Cuban woman and two of her countrymen were on Tuesday remanded to prison for allegedly robbing and murdering her lover at Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD), on 22nd July.
The dead man has been identified as 20-year-old Cuban national Yudivian Cardenas Amador Almagro, whose disappearance was reported by relatives on 23rd July. His decomposed remains were discovered around 11:15hrs on 27th July at the abandoned old Diamond Market area, located next to the Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) compound. Police believe he was stabbed to death.
Following investigations, police arrested three Cuban nationals of Timehri, East Bank Demerara- 26-year-old barber Alejandro Igalza Rios, called “Papote”; 29-year-old construction worker Juan Pablo Ferrer; and 24-year-old labourer Mairely Felicita Medinas Alvarez.
After questioning the suspects and gathering evidence, detectives jointly charged the trio with murder.
They appeared on Tuesday at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Dylon Bess, where they were not required to plead to the indictable charge. They were remanded to prison until 21st September, 2026.
Kaieteur News has confirmed that Cardenas was in a relationship with Felicita, who is now accused alongside the two men of killing him.

According to investigators, Felicita allegedly admitted during questioning that she devised a plan to lure Cardenas to the abandoned Diamond Market area, where her alleged accomplices robbed and killed him.
Police claim her initial account was contradicted by CCTV footage from a supermarket where the alleged murder weapon was purchased.
Investigators allege the footage showed Felicita with Igalza and Ferrer when they bought a knife, with Felicita reportedly handing the weapon to Igalza before they left the store.
The purchase was allegedly made around 13:00hrs on 22nd July — hours before Cardenas disappeared.
On the day he went missing, Cardenas was reportedly preparing to travel to neighbouring Brazil with a woman and had informed his mother of the trip.
His mother told police that the last contact she had with him was around 18:48hrs when he called to say he had met up with the woman. Shortly after, his phone went dead and all communication ceased.
Concerned relatives contacted the woman, whose number Cardenas had previously shared with his mother. However, she allegedly told them she had never met Cardenas and did not know his whereabouts.
A missing person flyer was subsequently circulated on social media before police discovered his body and arrested the three suspects.
Police allege Felicita later changed her story, claiming she had met Cardenas at Diamond with the intention of leaving Guyana with him for Brazil, but was confronted by her boyfriend, Igalza, and Ferrer.
She allegedly told investigators that she and Cardenas entered an abandoned building, where Ferrer later appeared. She claimed she fled and saw Igalza outside.
Felicita allegedly said Ferrer later emerged and told Igalza to stab Cardenas, after which they left with his haversack.
Police also questioned Igalza, who allegedly provided a version of events that investigators believe was intended to shield Felicita.
He reportedly told police he discovered messages on Felicita’s phone showing plans for her to leave Guyana with Cardenas. He claimed he informed Ferrer and the two followed Felicita’s live location.
However, investigators said information provided by Igalza helped expose Felicita’s alleged involvement after CCTV footage contradicted parts of her account.
