Kaieteur News – A US-based security officer, Bradley Hibbert who was nabbed with foreign cannabis at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport back in January was sentenced, on Tuesday, to 38 months in jail and fined $14,182,300 for the offence.
According to a statement from the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU), Hibbert appeared before Magistrate Tomika Clarke at the Friendship Magistrate’s Court for the offence of possession of 15.798 kilograms of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking to which he pleaded guilty.
Hibbert was then sentenced and fined.
CANU is its statement noted that the case originated from a January 2026 operation in which Hibbert was intercepted by officers at the CJIA’s arrival terminal. A subsequent search of his three suitcases revealed 28 compressed black plastic parcels containing a quantity of cannabis, which weighed 15.758 kilograms. CANU reported.
He was arrested and taken into custody at the time.
