Kaieteur News) – The Ministry of Agriculture through the Guyana Livestock Development Authority will soon rehabilitate the livestock farm located at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Bids for the project, estimated at $49.2 million were opened recently at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office, with some 30 contractors bidding for the contract.
The rehabilitation of the farm will form part of the $106.6 billion that was approved last month for the Ministry of Agriculture in the national budget. The ministry had stated that the allocation will advance key priorities across the sector, including drainage and irrigation, crop and livestock development, fisheries and aquaculture, agricultural research and extension services, agro-processing, and climate-resilient agriculture.
From the $106.6 billion, the Guyana Livestock Development Authority has been allocated $200,000,000 for breeding stock, livestock farm, pens, and equipment and payment of retention, according to the budget estimates document.
