Kaieteur Sports – School of the Nations emerged champions of the National Park Commission, Good Wood Racing Services, and R&T Taxi Service–sponsored Secondary Schools’ 30-ball Tapeball Cricket Competition, held last Sunday at the National Park Tarmac.
Fourteen secondary schools competed in the one-day round-robin/knockout tournament, which delivered several exciting upsets in the early rounds. With defending champions Covent Garden Secondary School absent, the stage was set for a new titleholder.
The grand finale featured School of the Nations against West Demerara Secondary School in a thrilling showdown. After winning the toss and electing to bat, School of the Nations posted a competitive 48-3 from their allotted five overs. Nathan Bishop led the scoring with 18 runs, while captain Kaiden Smith contributed a composed 15 to anchor the innings. Jeremiah Garnett stood out with the ball for West Demerara, claiming 2-14 to keep the target within reach.
In reply, West Demerara Secondary managed 39-5 at the end of their five overs, falling short by 11 runs. Sameer John top-scored in a valiant but unsuccessful chase.
Meanwhile, in the 2nd and 3rd Formers 24-ball competition for the G.O.A. President’s Trophy, Bishop’s High School secured an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Christ Church Secondary School.
Christ Church batted first and reached 32-4 from their allotted overs. Bishop’s High responded confidently, cruising to 36-2 with deliveries to spare. Jarad Ramkaran struck 16 runs, while Andrew Narine played a decisive innings of 19 to seal the win. Narine’s outstanding all-round performance earned him the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award.
The successful staging of the competition was made possible through the sponsorship of the National Park Commission, Good Wood Racing Services, and R&T Taxi Service.
