The Guyana Police Force FC will be hunting their first top trophy when they face Slingerz in the GFF Elite League Cup.
Kaieteur Sports – A new chapter in Guyanese football will be written tonight when Slingerz FC and Guyana Police Force FC collide in the final of the GFF Elite League Cup at the National Training Centre from 8:30 pm.
The clash promises drama, not only because both teams arrive in strong form, but also because it will mark the first time the two sides meet in the final of a knockout tournament organised by the Guyana Football Federation.
Both finalists earned their place after battling through intense semi-final encounters on Wednesday night.
Slingerz FC showcased resilience and attacking firepower in a 3–1 comeback victory over Western Tigers FC. The result carried extra significance for the defending Elite League champions, who were eager to erase memories of their narrow 1–0 loss to the Tigers in the GFF Super 16 Cup final on New Year’s Day.
In the other semi-final, the highly anticipated showdown between the disciplinary forces delivered a tense battle as Police FC edged past Guyana Defence Force FC.
However, when the dust was settled, it was Police FC who came out on top via a 2-0 scoreline.
Tonight’s championship encounter carries significant implications for both clubs.
For Slingerz FC, the match presents an opportunity to secure their first trophy of 2026 and reinforce their dominance on the local football scene. For Police FC, however, the stakes may be even greater.
The lawmen have endured a lengthy wait for major domestic silverware, with their last notable win coming in 2018 when they captured the Limacol Football Championship with a 4–2 victory over Pouderoyen FC at the Ministry of Education Ground.
