(Kaieteur News) – As of March 4, the government has 99 procurement opportunities available on its newly launched e-procurement website.
From checks made by this publication on Wednesday, the website has procurement opportunities available for some 13 agencies.
The agencies include the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministries of Finance, Agriculture, Natural Resources, Public Works, Public Utilities & Aviation, Human Services and Social Security, Education, Housing, Health, and Legal Affairs. There are also contracts for the Region Democratic Council of Regions Two and Six.
Some of the procurement opportunities available include proposals for the design, engineer, construct (and then operate), an ammonia/urea plant which is being tendered through the Office of the Prime Minister; the procurement of vessel tracking devices for the agriculture ministry; consulting services for independent administrator services for preparation of Guyana’s 8th and 9th EITI reports (FY 2024 & 2025) for the Ministry of Natural Resources just to name a few.

It was reported that on February 24, the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB), under the auspices of the Ministry of Finance, officially launched a government procurement opportunities website aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and open competition across Guyana’s public procurement system.
NPTAB in a statement disclosed that the new platform will serve as the primary online portal for the publication of all procurement opportunities for government agencies. This initiative represents a significant step in modernising Guyana’s public procurement system and ensuring equitable access to opportunities for contractors, suppliers, and consultants, the ministry said in a press release.
In keeping with the core principles of accountability and open competition, all Invitations to Tender (ITTs), Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Expressions of Interest (EOIs), and other procurement notices issued by government agencies will now be publicly advertised and regularly updated.
In the recently approved budget government allocated $145.2 million to advance the rollout of the system. Senior Minister with responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh said during his budget speech that significant progress had already been made in modernising the country’s procurement framework.
“In 2025, achievements included digitising records, sensitising and facilitating bidders’ registration and increasing the number of virtual tender openings thereby further enhancing transparency. These initiatives were alongside efforts to strengthen stakeholder engagement, and a review of the procurement act to support the transition toward digital bid submissions,” the minister said.
Additionally, he noted that in collaboration with the public procurement commission, NPTAB will widen training and capacity building initiatives for all procurement personnel through in-field training workshops and specialised training programmes.
He revealed that special focus will be placed on training first-time bidders and micro and small-scale contractors, to broaden competition, foster inclusivity and expand the eligibility of potential suppliers. Back in October 2025, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo had told a news conference that “the days of people having to buy a newspaper to check for tender ads will soon be over.”
He said then that the new digital platform will replace the long-standing system of publishing tender notices primarily in newspapers- a practice he said currently costs the state close to $800M annually.
