(Kaieteur News) – Three masked gunmen stormed a Rose Hall, Berbice supermarket on Saturday evening and escaped with $1.5 million in cash.
Police said the robbery was committed on 58-year-old Gurudat Sudhai, called “Zick,” a businessman of Lot 2 ‘B’ Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice, and owner of G. Sudhai Supermarket.
The incident occurred at about 19:00 hrs on February 28, 2026, while Sudhai was preparing to close his business.
Police reported that three men of African and Indian descent, fully masked, rushed into the supermarket. One was armed with a suspected rifle while the other two carried small handguns.
The bandits ordered Sudhai and his workers to lie on the floor, which they did. The suspects then pulled Sudhai’s wife, Kamlawatti Sudhai, to the cash register and removed the day’s sales amounting to $1,500,000.
The men exited the building and fled south along the access street towards the backdam.
Investigators found cameras at the supermarket, however, they are currently non-operational due to ongoing renovations.
