(Kaieteur News) – A Black Bush Polder, Corentyne home was last evening invaded and robbed of more than $100,000 allegedly by a young man the family alleged is one of their neighbours.
Nazir Khan, 53, told reporters on Wednesday that around 11:15 on Tuesday evening, he and his family observed a sound coming from the living room.
At the time, Khan, a rice farmer, was at his Lot 98 Johanna North, Black Bush Polder home with his wife, his two sons ages 26 and 14, his 22-year daughter-in-law and his grandson.
A window which is usually locked by a lever was only pulled shut, which allowed the intruder access to the house.
“When we look outside in the living room, there is my neighbour’s son,” Khan recalled. The man was attempting to peep into Khan’s room door.
Khan said this was the first time his home has been invaded in his over 40 years of residency there. He said his young neighbour has reportedly targeted other homes in the community. He is believed to be in his mid-twenties, and has reportedly served time in prison for similar offenses.
The intruder, having been caught in the act, promptly exited the premises, but Khan noted that his family was able to identify him.
“There was a light (on) in the house, so we recognise him clear. When we ask him ‘wuh yuh doing deh baii’, he just run out the house. He bin already open the door. We don’t know when that door open,” Khan said.
A bag in which had $150,000 was missing. The money was the only item reportedly stolen from the home; Khan confirmed. It is unclear if the man operated by himself or if there were accomplices.
Meanwhile, he pointed out to reporters that his engagements with the police were unproductive. Khan both called and visited the Mibicuri Police Station in Black Bush Polder around 12:00am, but thus far has received no visits by ranks.
Fearful that the man who is yet to be apprehended may want to spitefully target his family, Khan is calling on the police to bring him in. Khan related that only this morning Bisram, somehow emboldened, was addressing him with foul expressions.
“We look for the police (to) come and do their duty that they are supposed to do, and he have to pay the penalty for that, because he not easy. If he din come and kill somebody in the house now? I don’t know if he got any weapon, I didn’t see he hand with no weapon in he waist or so,” Khan expressed.
He said the man previously attacked members of the community with cutlass.
