Kaieteur Sports – The Goodwood Racing Service and R&T Taxi Service Secondary School Boys’ Tapeball Cricket League bowled off last Sunday with an exciting series of matches on the tarmac of the National Cultural Centre.
Bowlers dominated the opening day, though there were flashes of batting brilliance, particularly in the clash between St. Stanislaus College and Patentia Secondary. Saints went down to Patentia by 12 runs.
Batting first, Patentia posted 52-2 from their allotted overs, led by captain Kevin Mahase, who anchored the innings with a composed 31. Nitin Bhowandat and Anhonia Forde each claimed a wicket for Saints, helping to restrict Patentia to under 60.
In reply, St. Stanislaus could only muster 40-5 before running out of overs. Aaron Persaud offered the lone resistance with a fighting 23. Shazad Ally did the bulk of the damage for Patentia, finishing with impressive figures of 3-19 to seal the 12-run victory.
In another encounter, Diamond Secondary cruised to a commanding 39-run win over New Campbellville Secondary.
Diamond’s explosive top-order batter, Ravin Singh, blasted a scintillating half-century to propel his side to 77-2. Singh struck a classy 52, punishing the Campbellville bowlers and setting up an imposing total. Makhaya Jones was the pick of the bowlers for Campbellville, claiming 2-29.
Chasing 78 for victory, New Campbellville were bundled out for 38. Diamond’s bowling trio of Nazeem Persaud, Ravin Singh and Vickash Roopnarine shared six wickets evenly, each taking two each. Jayden Sargent was the lone batter to reach double figures for Campbellville, top-scoring with 19.
Also competing for the league title are St. Rose’s High School, St. Joseph High School, Tutorial High, St. John’s College, Queen’s College, The Bishop’s High School, North Ruimveldt Secondary, West Demerara Secondary, Beterverwagting (BV) Secondary, Covent Garden Secondary, Charlestown Secondary, Richard Ishmael Secondary, Christ Church Secondary, School of the Nations, along with the four teams that featured on Sunday.
