(Kaieteur News) – As preparation continues for the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) annual Phagwah Horse race meet, the organisers have added one more event to the day’s programme. This is as a result of the number of sponsors and horse owners that have indicated their willingness to be a part of the day’s activity.
The event is set for Sunday 8th March 2026 at the prestigious KMTC Turf club at Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice.
The F class race has been added to the already exciting list of events. The winner will run home with an encouraging $500,000 and trophy over 7 furlongs.
With the addition of this new race the day’s enticements have pitched to over $9M in cash, trophies and other incentives.
The Phagwah Cup matchup remains the feature event for the day with the horses matching skills for a winner’s grab of $2M along with the Phagwah Cup over 9 Furlongs.
Horses running in the H class race which will see the winner getting $450,000 and a trophy over 7 furlongs.
The three years old Guyana bred maiden event has a first prize of $350,000 and a trophy in the 6-furlong event.
There is $350,000 and a trophy available for the top horse in the J class 7 Furlongs contest.
The horse that wins the K class and lower event will run away with $350,000 and a trophy over 6 Furlongs.
A similar amount of $350,000 and trophy is first prize takings for the winner in the L class maiden horserace over 6 furlongs.
Outstanding performances including the Champion Jockey and Runner up Jockeys, trainer and stables etc. will all receive accolades compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall.
The event will be held using the rules of the Kennard Memorial Turf Club.
