Dear Editor,
As a tourism writer and public analyst, I believe that the recently opened Bayroc National Stadium in Linden represents a major opportunity for growth within Guyana’s tourism industry and the wider national economy
The stadium sets a strong precedent for the development of multipurpose sporting and entertainment facilities across the country. Its presence positions Linden, and Guyana as a whole, to attract regional and international sporting events, cultural showcases, and entertainment activities that can place the country firmly on the Caribbean events map.
The opening of the Bayroc National Stadium also creates opportunities for the establishment of new sports clubs and encourages investors who have been waiting for avenues to expand programs and projects within the Caribbean. With the right promotion and management, Guyana can become a leading destination for sports tourism and youth development initiatives.
Additionally, the hospitality and transportation sectors are likely to see increased demand.
Hotels, restaurants, taxi operators, tour services, and small vendors in and around Linden stand to benefit from increased visitor traffic, both from locals and overseas guests attending events at the stadium.
The ripple effects on employment and small and medium-sized businesses should not be overlooked. Job creation across construction, event management, security, marketing, and service industries can contribute to stronger community development and improved livelihoods
With improved financial and commercial infrastructure being put in place, facilities such as the Bayroc National Stadium can serve as catalysts for entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainable tourism growth, provided they are strategically integrated into Guyana’s long-term development plans.
Sincerely,
Mr. Blane R Bunbury
