Kaieteur Sports – Guyana made light work of Jamaica, beating them by 5 wickets in a relatively low-scoring battle which bowled off yesterday’s opening round of the Women’s Super50 tournament.
After Jamaica folded for just 76 all out with more than half their overs remaining, Guyana despite losing 5 wickets, finished on 77-5 with 23 overs left to spare.
Only Chrishana McKenzie (25) and Chedean Nation (12) made an impact for Jamaica, as spinner Ashmini Munisar bagged impressive figures of 4-23.
Spinner Kaysia Schultz (2-16), 50-over specialist Tramaine Marks (2-7) and off-spinner Plaffianna Millington (1-13), lent ideal support.
Guyana got to their target thanks to contributions from the in-form Shabika Gajnabi (23*), Sheneta Grimmond (17), Captain Shamaine Campbell (12) and Mandy Mangru (10).
Meanwhile, in other Round 1 matches, Barbados (144 all out) beat Leeward Islands (65 all out), by a massive 79-run deficit thanks to 74 from Naijanni Cumberbatch, Shamilia Connell (4-17) and skipper Aaliyah Alleyne (3-3).
Meanwhile, fifties from Afy Fletcher (61) and Janiella Glasgow (73), powered the Windwards past Trinidad and Tobago.
Windwards made 225-7 before knocking the Trinis over for 134 all out, with Fletcher returning to claim 4 wickets.
The penultimate round continues on Thursday with Guyana looking to go 2-0 in the tournament when they face arch rivals Trinidad and Tobago.
Barbados will square off against Jamaica, while the Leewards play the Windwards; with matches bowling off from 9:30 respectively across St. Vincent. (Clifton Ross)
