Kaieteur Sports – The highly anticipated Hamilton Green Cup is set to make a rousing return to the Westside this February, with organisers confirming plans to host the 2026 edition of the prestigious nine-a-side Inter-Ward/Village Knockout Football Championship. The Den Amstel Community Centre ground is expected to come alive with excitement from February 1–22, as football fans gather for four nights of thrilling under-the-lights action.
A total of 32 teams will compete in a straight knockout format over four playing dates — February 1, 8, 15, and the grand finale on February 22, when champions will be crowned. Billed to kick off on Sunday, February 1, the tournament offers wards and villages the chance to compete for up to $800,000 in cash and prizes.

Some of the country’s most competitive village sides are slated to feature, including Stewartville, Swan FC, Real Sports, Gladiator, Espanyol, Pouderoyen ‘A’ and ‘B’, Zeelugt, Den Amstel ‘A’ and ‘B’, Sophia, Camptown, Soesdyke, Beavers ‘A’ and ‘B’, Eagles, Uitvlugt ‘A’ and ‘B’, Crane, Harmonie, No. 1 All Stars, Wales, Mocha, Wash Bay Boys, Coverden, Timehri United, Belle West Stars, Uprising, Stabroek Ballers, Herstelling, Pele and Madrid, all vying for supremacy.
The four-night spectacle has been made possible through the collective support of a strong pool of sponsors, ensuring a well-organised tournament that provides players with a platform to showcase their talent. The tournament is backed by the former Mayor of Georgetown, Hamilton Green, a stalwart in sports development initiatives. Over its more than 30-year history, the Hamilton Green Cup has earned a reputation for unearthing and assembling some of the finest football talent, appealing to both seasoned veterans and emerging stars.
Matches will be played in an exciting nine-a-side format, lasting 30 minutes — two halves of 15 minutes each. In keeping with the tournament’s unique style, the offside rule will not be enforced, prompting organisers to note that “anyone can score.” FIFA rules will otherwise apply. Teams are permitted 12 players, with eight outfield players and a goalkeeper on the pitch at any time. A minimum of seven players, including a goalkeeper, is required to start a match; failure to meet this requirement will result in a forfeit or walkover.
Discipline will be strictly enforced, with any player receiving a red card automatically suspended for the next match.
Action gets underway next Sunday with eight exciting matches, all kicking off at 6:00 pm on each playing day. On February 22, the champions will walk away with $500,000 in cash and a trophy, while second-place finishers will collect $200,000 and a trophy. Third place will also be rewarded with $100,000 in cash and a trophy, ensuring no top finisher leaves empty-handed.
