Ninvalle pays tribute to late Boxing Coach Gregory ‘Chassis’ Cort
Kaieteur Sports – President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle, has paid glowing tribute to the late Gregory Cort, describing him as the driving force behind the growth and success of boxing in Berbice and a passionate servant of the sport in Guyana.
Cort, who died on Friday after a period of ailment, was 63 years old. He was the long-serving head coach of the Rose Hall Jammers Boxing Gym and one of the most influential grassroots boxings figures the country has produced.

In expressing condolences, Ninvalle said Cort’s passing represents a major loss to the boxing fraternity, particularly in Berbice, where his impact was both deep and lasting.
“Gregory Cort was more than just a coach, he was the heartbeat of boxing in Berbice,” Ninvalle stated.
“His passion for the sport, his commitment to young athletes, and his belief in what boxing could do for lives and communities were unmatched. He has left a void that will be extremely hard to fill, and he will be deeply missed,” Ninvalle said.

Under Cort’s guidance, boxing in Berbice reached new heights. He was instrumental in identifying, nurturing, and developing talent, producing several of Guyana’s top boxers, many of whom went on to compete regionally and establish themselves among the best in the Caribbean.
Ninvalle noted that Cort’s contribution went beyond medals and titles, emphasizing his role in discipline-building, mentorship, and the long-term development of the sport.
“His legacy will live on through the fighters he developed and the standard he set,” Ninvalle added.
Gregory Cort’s name, Ninvalle highlighted, will forever be etched in the history of Guyanese boxing as a coach who gave selflessly to the sport he loved.
