Sinclair champions grassroots cricket with Annual Tapeball Tournament at Bourda as Trophy Stall supports
Kaieteur Sports – Guyanese and West Indian cricketer Kevin Sinclair continues to strengthen his commitment to grassroots cricket development with the hosting of the annual Kevin Sinclair Foundation Tapeball Cricket Competition, set for Sunday, January 11, at the iconic Bourda Cricket Club ground.
The initiative, which has steadily grown into a fixture on Guyana’s local sporting calendar, reflects Sinclair’s vision of keeping young people engaged with cricket at a time when technology and digital entertainment increasingly compete for their attention. Through his foundation, the 26-year-old has been working to reach aspiring cricketers from all corners of the country, providing opportunities for exposure, competition and personal development.

“This competition is about nurturing the local talent pool,” Sinclair has emphasized, noting that Tapeball cricket remains one of the most accessible and popular entry points for young players, especially in communities with limited resources.
This year’s one-day tournament will feature 10 male teams, including several well-known and competitive sides such as Madhia, Eccles All Stars, Team Sip N Play and Team Corruption, among others. In a further boost to inclusivity, the event will also include a women’s segment, with four female teams expected to compete once confirmations are finalized.
More than $500,000 in cash and prizes will be on offer, adding extra incentive as teams battle for top honours in both the male and female divisions. Support for the 2026 staging comes from sponsors Genuine Auto Sale, Trophy Stall and Skeldon Energy Inc., whose backing has been crucial to the tournament’s continued growth.
Sinclair’s passion for youth cricket is rooted in his own journey. Hailing from New Amsterdam, Berbice, he rose through the local and regional ranks to earn selection for the West Indies, becoming known for his energy, discipline and effectiveness as a spin-bowling all-rounder. His path from local grounds to the international stage has made him a relatable figure for young players dreaming of similar success.
By reinvesting in the grassroots level, Sinclair is helping to ensure that those dreams remain achievable. As the Bourda ground prepares to host another vibrant day of Tapeball action, the tournament stands as a reminder that the future of Guyanese and West Indian cricket continues to be shaped not only at the highest level, but also in community-driven initiatives led by players who have walked the same path.
