(Kaieteur News) – Police in Regional Division # 7 are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Márcio Rocha, a 46-year-old Brazilian national and miner which occurred between 06:00hrs and 12:00hrs on Monday at Seemang Backdam, Middle Mazaruni.
Preliminary enquiries revealed that the deceased, who reportedly suffered from a medical condition, was last seen alive at about 06:00hrs on the said date at a mining camp in the area. About 12:00hrs, his lifeless body was discovered lying in a hammock at the camp and the matter was reported to the police.
The scene was visited and the body was examined; however, no marks of violence were observed. The body was escorted to the Bartica Regional Hospital where it was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty. It is presently at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing.
