(Kaieteur News) – The murder case arising from the devastating MV Barima tragedy was heard at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court Monday morning before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir.
The matter was adjourned until 7th September after the court granted Police Prosecutor Mandel Moore additional time to complete and serve full disclosures. The prosecution informed the court that only partial disclosures were available at the time.

Attorney Everton Lammy appeared for Rondell Dwayne Roberts, the 42-year-old Chief Mate of Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara. A defence team comprising Attorneys Dexter Smartt, Keona Higgins, Eden Corbin, Angel Stevens and Dr. Dexter Todd, appearing both in person and virtually, represented Delon Granderson, the 33-year-old goods superintendent of Fellowship, West Coast Demerara, and Kevin Price, called “KP”, the 40-year-old captain of Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara. All three accused men appeared before the court virtually while handcuffed.
The MV Barima, an 87-year-old ferry built in 1939, capsized while en route from to Port Kaituma from Georgetown on 18th July, 2026. The tragic incident has so far resulted in the loss of 73 lives, with at least 30 persons still missing. Government said that 77 persons were rescued, but one survivor subsequently died. Government has since establisbed a Commission of Inquiry, but work is yet to begin.
